Blankie
So Maev, we learned something last week. You are ATTACHED to your security blanket. We've made a point to only let you use it when sleeping, but still you are ATTACHED. Did I mention that you are ATTACHED? I don't know how we've gone almost 15months without an incident, but last week it happened.
Daddy forgot to bring your blankie home from school.
You are such a good sleeper and go to bed every night without a whimper. I thought maybe this wouldn't be a big deal. I said to daddy, "Well, we'll see how this goes."
It did not go well. We finished up bathtime, got ready for bed, read the book...and then you started pointing and saying "heh? heh?", kind of like- "Where's my blankie? Where's my blankie?" I tried to give you a back-up blankie that neither looks nor smells like your real blankie and you threw it on the floor.
So finally I just tucked you into bed...and left. You seemed fine and weren't crying. That lasted....3 minutes. You cried and cried and cried...Not being used to this, I felt bad and got you out of bed. I tried cuddling, but you kept playing with the chair. So I put back in bed...more tears. I tried just sitting in the room with you...more tears. After almost an hour and knowing we weren't going to make a habit out of this, I got you out once more and you whimpered yourself to sleep, sans blankie. By that point, I'm sure you were just exhausted from all the tears.
I was worried you might wake up in the middle of night and freak out because....again NO BLANKIE, but you didn't.
And guess what mommy did the next morning....? Found and ordered the same blankie. (see above) And I must have gotten the last one in existence because just moments after I ordered it, I went to send Daddy the link and the site showed it as SOLD OUT. I also discovered that the same company sells these security blankets in packs of 3. Now that's smart!
We received blankie #2 yesterday and you still prefer original blankie. This weekend I plan to wash them both and pull a little switch-a-roo on you. Then we can keep one at school and one at home.
Sorry for the drama-filled evening. We'll do our best not to let it happen again.
Love-
Mama and Dad-dee (as you say it)

Oh my goodness, this is so traumatizing. Just last Sunday, Brad and I had two very whiny toddlers in the church nursery. Another (brilliant) caregiver dug through the kids' bags and found little blankies in both of them. We gave the kids their blankets and we didn't hear another peep from either one of them for the next two hours. They just sat (or laid) on the floor, and cuddled their blankies. It was amazing!
