Thank You Note

Hey Maevy -

Not sure if I've mentioned it- but you're in a book club at school. It's a small group of 6 kids (the highest level readers) from your class. Ms. Cramer - Tate's mom and also your Daisy troop leader - was nice enough to volunteer each Friday for your book club meeting. Ms. Young picks out and distributes the book to the group on Monday. Then you all read the book during the week - I assume during free reading time. It sounds like most of you generally finish the book, then you all meet and discuss the book with Ms. Cramer each Friday.

I guess Ms. Young asked you all to write Ms. Cramer a short thank you note for volunteering...last week.

We didn't know, but found a response note back from Ms. Cramer. So I asked Mr. Cramer ...what exactly did Maevy write - that elicited a thank you response note.

She sent me a copy of your note...you're hilarious, but sweet and very inquisitive.
Love you - goofball

Early Christmas Gift

Maevy-girl -

We've been talking about it for months...but Mommy finally got Daddy to make you a new bookcase last weekend. You desperately needed a new one and were running out of space in the old one. Plus I decided to paint your old one for the nursery nook upstairs.

Here's the finished product -

We really wanted it to be done and to re-oganize all your books - that you/we opted not to poly or give it a shine for the time being. I think Daddy did a good job at picking a stain that matches your current bedroom furniture. We talked about doing a cool, backboard in a pink vinyl or wrapping paper - but I think we might wait and see how this works out.

Current organization is:
Top shelf: Hard cover picture books in order of size
2nd shelf: Chapter books
3rd shelf: Paperback picture books
4th shelf: Activity books - Highlights, Which Way USA, etc...

You are clearly my daughter though - between Friday night when I took all of your books off the old bookcase and Sunday afternoon - you organized your books at least 3 different ways. Sunday morning - first thing when you woke up, instead of eating breakfast, waking us up, or playing on the iPad - I found you in your room, organizing your books on the floor by color - in order of the rainbow.

I was proud of you later in the day for going through your books and giving some to Carter and some to the Lending Library. We also cleaned and organized your desk. More like your Grandma - you are a bit of a hoarder and have a hard time parting with the simplest of "valuables". I'll admit, I defintely threw some (lots) of things away when you weren't looking. Baby steps... :)

Merry book-Christmas!

Star Wars Day

Guess who had a pretty awesome Friday and last day of school for the year -

Your class - mostly in pjs, you ready to go in your Star Wars gear -

After a short half day, Daddy pick you up and ya'll headed to Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens. Daddy said you were great, and took some hilarious notes - that included - "What's happening?, Who is that? Is he happy or sad? I'm not sure what's happening." Afterwards you and Daddy went and had hot chocolate to chat about the movie.

Then you had your first Girl Scout sleep-over "camping" night - at the zoo. It included a night hike and visit from a few animals. Hilarious - that in one of these pics you are sitting in Ms. Cramer's lap. Here are some pics -

Your winter break fun continues today with a trip to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Hunstville with Daddy, followed by quick sleep-over and hang with M & Poppy - then back to Nashville for Christmas.

Happy winter break!

Climbing Sunday

Maevy-girl-

I'm still working on getting you to commit to taking a climbing class or attending a Climb Nashville camp this summer. We decided to take you and Carter both climbing last Sunday. Carter didn't last long, but Daddy was nice to bole you for over 2 hours. You even did some bouldering....and some 5.9 tracks that you had to try a couple times and problem solve.

The heights don't seem to bother and you love getting to the top. Keep up the great work. We'll try and take you more often in the coming year. :)

Top club! Check out your little chalk bag...that you think it a necessity now. Daddy and I both crack up when you stop mid-climb to "chalk-up". :)

1st Grade Self/Teacher Evaluation

Maevy-girl-

You got a great review from Ms. Young this morning. She's really enjoying having you in her class, and you're performing great. You and she were both stretching for things to work on.

Interesting anectodoes/things to work on-
- You've fallen out of your chair twice this year and once in the cafeteria...one time resulting in a visit to Nurse Ginny. (You're a knee sitter and wiggly - this doesn't surprise us.)
- Your self-eval (not surprisingly) shows that you have no desire to do physical activity.
- Ms. Young thought your comment on art projects was actually kind of insightful and true.
- You are neat and organized.
- You aren't missing any work when you go to Encore. Ms. Young is usually working with students and no new concepts are being taught when you're gone.
- You are bit of show off or at least like to nicely remind everyone that you are already reading chapter books or have already mastered (insert random skill here).
- Your desire to hang out with the teacher does make you a little nosy - always wanting to know what/why Ms. Young is talking to so-and-so.

Ms. Young is going to work on giving you more individual praise and affirmation - to maybe help cut down on the desire for classroom affirmation. We'll work on teaching you to support/help your peers...and giving Ms. Young a little space.

All in all...we're of course super proud and continued to be impressed by your work ethic and desire to learn.

Keep up the great work!

Reading - I'm really good at.
Writing - I'm really good at.
Math - Working on fluency.
Lunch - I don't get to sit by friends if they go to lunch bunch.
Recess - Tired of running.
Art - It's long. Project could take just one day.
PE - I get tired.

Needs to remember to put her jacket up - It ends up on the floor on her desk..all over the place.

Book Character Day & Halloween

You were pretty stinkin' cute as Ivy from the Ivy & Bean series and one of the few from your class that dressed a protagonist from an actual book...unlike say random princess from a Disney story.

Your friend, Laosie, also dressed as Ivy. How funny that you both picked the same book/book cover to use as inspiration.
Super quick pick as you walked by and didn't notice Carter/I during the parade.

The next day as a penguin..with your fireman brother. :) (not pictured are your adorable flipper slippers)
You and Daddy made it up and down our street, but you did not partake in any of the haunted mazes or scary stuff. You also did a great job handing out candy. It was another crazy year...and we were out of candy by 7pm. But then we got to head down Esther's party - where you ran around and ate more sweets and 1 piece of celery that I made you eat. :)

Happy Halloween!

Girls Weekend

While the boys were in Memphis last weekend - we had a fun a girls weekend! It was great to hang out and watch some of my favorite shows with you!

Friday -
Picked you up from school at dismissal.
Went grocery shopping, and straightened up the house.
Then we went to the car wash-you had never been before. It was fun, and then you helped vacuumed!
Headed to LDC for their movie night.
Millie met up with us for a sleepover.
We were freezing - so we headed home early and then watched Project Runway.

Saturday-
SAVY class in the morning
I took a quick nap - while you started a new mini-blanket on your loom with some new yarn I got you.
Then we headed to Walmart for some shopping - we needed to finish up your penguin costume - but also grabbed  you some more socks, a dress, some leggings, some bows, and matching slippers!
Then -you suggested that we go to Sushi Train for dinner! (how fun!) You mostly just ate edamame and dessert, but you did kind of try some sushi. (See pic above.)
We dropped in on the Warrens...and you and Crawfie played for a bit.
Back at home...more Project Runway!

Sunday-
We slept in.
Ate more cinnamon rolls - then watched Amazing Race, the challenge part of Survivor, and another Project Runway!
We finally got dressed and headed to Ms. Karen's - who was nice enough to paint your nails.
Mommy quickly painted hers too.
You wanted to drive by Poppy & Monroe - Ms. Karen's new nail place- not opened up. So we headed that way- while also trying to think of place to eat for lunch.
Then you suggested and then directed me to a place - I didn't even know existed. I guess you had gone there with Daddy before..and said it was good.
You're turning into a mini-Amy with all these restaurant suggestions! It ended up being Steadfast Coffee- which was a little fancy. You kind of ate your eggs....and then told me afterwards that before when you and Daddy went there - you only had water!
Then we headed to the Frist for their Family Day - and had taking our time with all the activities!
Then we headed home - I took a tiny nap- and you spent some more time on your blanket.

Then...the boys got home..and you and Carter immediately started fighting over these tiny tissue packets.
Girls weekend - over!

Had a great time with you! Can't wait to do it again!

Love,

Mommy

Fall Break 2015

Maevy-girl-

You got a pretty sweet Fall break this year - M and Pop took you to San Diego to visit Aunt Suz, Jules, and Uncle Lenny..and to Disneyland!

M and Pop reported you were great, and entertained yourself very well on the long flights. Most nights you put everyone to bed when you were ready to sleep. You are not a fan of falling asleep with the TV on!

Here are some fun pics from your trip-

1st stop - In and Out Burger-

Disneyland -
Turns out you still aren't into "thrill" rides and still don't like even least bit of "scary". I think you most enjoyed meeting the characters, getting autographs, and staying at the Disneyland resort- where, according to you, you can eat anything you want, anytime of the day - for FREE!

You took a quiz analyzing which Disney princess you are most like - Pochahontas-

On the Dumbo ride with M - you kept making her go way up high!

Meeting up some of Suz's friends with kids your age!

California Adventure-

San Diego Zoo-

M& Pop were impressed they got you to ride the sky ride -

The beach...M said you loved playing in the waves!

 Spa time -

An awesome picture you made for Juicy/Jules/Juli while she was napping -

Happy Fall break! Mommy and Daddy are glad you had a great time, but we're happy to have you home!

Love you!
