1st Boyfriend

I'm blame myself and Ms. Morgan (one of your school teachers) for this one. We've been hanging out socially with Monty (and his parents- Ms. Karen and Mr. Jason) a lot, like at least once a week.

You get pretty excited when we say we are going to hang out with Monty after school. You're kind of bossy, but overall I think you two play well together.

I will jokingly say, "Monty's your boyfriend." or "You love Monty..." I think Ms. Morgan says "Monty's my boyfriend!" And then you reply, "No, he's mine!"

Well we had dinner at their house last Friday night. As we were leaving, we told you to give Monty a hug or high-five and say "thanks for having us over." You decided to give Monty a hug and a kiss (unsolicited)! It was very sweet. Why do girls always have to make the first move?

Side story: I did the same thing in Kindergarten, kissing Jesse Conrad at nap time. I consider him my first love. :)

iPad Addict

Maevster-

You are becoming quite the big girl. Our new morning routine (on a school day) consists of Carter waking up at 6am (Mom nurses Carter in bed) while Daddy keeps his eyes closed. Sometimes you don't wake up until your clock is green (6:30a), but other times you get up just a few minutes after Daddy gets Carter. We used to just send you back to bed, but this week I got creative and gave you a couple options - 1. Go back upstairs and read, or 2. Play with the iPad in the living room until Mom and Dad get up.

Without hesitation, you whispered back to me..."iPad," and left the room.

When Daddy finally got up, he came out to the living room to find the above scene- you on the couch all covered up, watching Curious George (on the iPad), with a bowl of peanut-butter pretzels. (I guess you were hungry..and a bowl of cereal was too complicated.)

You are hilarious, Maevy, and your maturity never ceases to amaze me. Also...you're welcome for the iPad.

Tinkerbell

Hi Maevy-

Last weekend you were invited to a new friend's, Laoise, 4th birthday party. It was a Disney princess party with real-life people dressed up as Cinderella and Jasmine. You were very shy at first and sat in Mommy's lap while they sang a couple songs and tried to get everyone to twirl and curtsey. A couple things of note:

1. You've never seen Alladin, and therefore had no idea who Jasmine was. You asked, "Why is that girl's tummy showing?" I didn't really know how to respond...That's how they dress in the Middle East...definitely not true.

2. You were all dressed up in a fancy dress and even wore your Glenda the Good Witch tiara, but most of the other girls had play-princess dresses on. Laoise's mom asked you if you wanted to put on a Tinkerbell dress and you immediately said, "Yes!" As we were putting it on, you noticed there was little medal with a picture on it. You thought it was Cinderella. She was blonde and pretty. I told you.. "No, that's Tinkerbell." Then I immediately realized you had never seen Peter Pan or Tinkerbell, both Disney movies. You've only seen the Mary Martin play - Peter Pan, where Tinkerbell is just a light. This came up again when the Princesses were painting Tinkerbell on your hand. You said, "That's not Tinkerbell. He's a light." I think you thought Tinkerbell was a boy too! The whole thing was pretty funny, and of course the Disney princesses recommended you see the movies. We'll see...

The best part of the party was the end when Laoise's mom let you borrow/take home the Cinderella dress-up dress. You've come home almost every day from school this week, and put it on with some form "glass" slippers.

Hey Maev-

Just within this last month or so your writing skills have really taken off. I'm so impressed. Every morning Mom/Dad are required to sign you in at school. When you started the Three's class, Miss Alex started providing a kid's sign-in clipboard. The first couple weeks you weren't too interested, but now you sign in every morning. We give you lots of a praise and jokingly point out all the parents who have obviously written in their child's name for them. :) Now you are signing your name on everything. Keep up the good work!

Spoon Follow-up

This morning while you were watching Phineas & Ferb on Mom's phone and eating your cereal, Daddy asked if you wanted to be "a fireside girl"- kind of like a Girl Scout.

You replied: "No...I want to be a spoon."

Sounds like you are determined. Dream big, Maev!

1st Day of School- Three's Class

Hey Maevy-
Starting today, you are officially no longer a toddler. Even though you've been 3 for awhile now, today was your first day in the Three's class. Mom and Dad made a big deal out of it- singing/dancing to a song this morning- "Who's a big girl? In the Three's Class...Who's a big girl? In the Three's Class... Who's a big girl? In the Three's Class?..." You get the point. (Mom isn't very creative.) You still liked the song. And, we took the required 1st Day of School Photo- (still in the red building, but in the basement).

Your teachers are Ms. Alex and Ms. Jessie. Mom and Dad are super excited that Ms. Alex moved up with you (again). You guys are best buds, our favorite babysitter and has been your teacher since you were in T-3. You've been with most of these classmates for over a year now, having started T-4 with them last August.

Extra bonus- your new classroom shares a door/open area with the nursery. So you'll hopefully get to see Carter several times throughout the day. Plus it will make pick-up a lot easier (no more carrying heavy car seats up/down stairs!)

Last year's school year was spent potty-training, learning your alphabet, numbers, some Spanish, and much more. I'm excited to see what this year will bring...(more reading, letter sounds, writing skills!)

Already on your first day- you had to decide what you want to be when you grow up...You said a "spoon". Interesting...also why the mean face?

Modern Day- Pretend Play

Hey Maevy-

Before heading out the door this morning for school, you grabbed a book that you, Daddy (and Carter) had just read- A Mother for Choco. Unprompted, here's our conversation:

You: "I'm pretending this is an iPad."
(I quickly looked back and saw you swiping away.)
Me: "What are you doing? Playing a game?"
You: "No, I'm looking at pictures."
Me: "Cool"

M (and Pop) are totally to blame for this one. We don't even own an iPad, but M does. You love looking at pictures on it and playing games that M downloaded for you.

I'm sure Daddy and I are going to have many of these moments; moments where we realize how technology will play a major role in your life and at such an early age. I think looking back on this post when you are in high school will be mind-blowing. In 2012, iPads are one of the coolest things out there. I wonder what your children will pretend their books are...instead of books.
