5th Birthday Party

Hi Maevy-

Here's the photo reel from your 5th Birthday Party - Animal Themed. You picked out almost every detail from who you was invited to the exact design of the cake. I think party planning might be in your future. :)

Here's what we did-
1. Foil art

2. Animal Tattoos, then this pose of you, Margot, and Millie (acting like animals?)
3. Outdoor activities: Zebra, Zebra...Hyena, Musical Mats with our animals, and a Great Peanut Hunt to feed our animals

Cart got to hunt too

5. Group pics (Maisie, Margot, Maevy, Carmen (top), Lily, Millie (bottom)

6. Cake and ice cream-
- Chocolate cake with yellow icing, giraffe print border, giraffe cake topper, and animal print candles
-Neopolitan ice cream (your favorite)

7. Indoor post-cake activites-
Animal dance party and Animal charades

Favorte moments from the party-
1. When Margot asked "Why are there 2 Mommies?" after getting confused seeing both me and Aunt Robyn in the dining room.
2. Grandma laughing hysterically at Daddy's impression of a bird.
3. Lily's awesome burping skills during cake.

Your favorite moment:
You said playing with Millie in the front yard after everyone left, looking for bugs with your new bug kit.

Although we didn't invite friends to bring gifts to the party, your family did give you a few wonderful gifts -
(2) reader books, and (2) Frozen puzzles - Mom and Dad
a bunch of books, Melissa & Doug decorate yourself jewelry box - Grandma and Grandpa
Musical jewelry box - M & Pop
Melting beads & trip to the candy store - Uncle Jake and Aunt Robyn
The Night Before Kindergarten Activity Set - Uncle Lenny and Aunt Suzanne
Bug catcher and science kit - Carmen (He still wanted to get you something.)
College donations - Great-Grandpa, Aunt Lesley, and Uncle JR

Thanks for being such a sweet girl, and helping me plan the best animal party in town!

Love you,

Mommy

Maevy "I am your father"

Maevy,
Well, your mom mentioned the Star Wars.  You have taken to it like a fish to water; and it makes me very happy.  As with most of the movies and theater shows you see, there are plenty of questions.  And since your questions seem to have no end, Mommy seems to be learning as much as you are.

So like every good father, you were started on the Stars Wars episodes in the order of their release.  Now, you've only seen the first two - A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back - but you are anxious to see number three - Return of the Jedi.

I like the structure of these films because we started talking about Act breakdowns and this movie is an easy way to show you them.  We get introduced and a problem is stated; the characters get into the worst of the predicament; and then the resolution.  You caught on quite well, and I do love when you ask me questions that reference the act that something happens in. And you carry it over to all the stuff you see.  Brava, Maevy.  Brava!

Love,

Your buddy

Happy 5th Birthday!

Happy Birthday Maevy-girl! I can't believe you are 5 years old. Your baby-fat is officially gone, and you are just a tall and boney little girl.

Your birthday fell on a Tuesday this year; so we brought strawberry yogurt pops to school as a special treat, and you got to pick what you had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Breakfast: Strawberry Frosted Mini Wheat & Honey Chex mix
Lunch: Strawberries, Yogurt, Waffle with syrup dip, and raisins
Dinner: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Craisins, Raisins, Applesauce, and Goldfish
Dessert: Birthday cupcake (You only ate the frosting.)

Your brother thanks you for the meal. He also loves all those things.

Some other fun facts: (in no particular order)

Things you love:
1. TV & Movies - If you could, you would probably want to watch some variation of a show for the most of the day. This never happens, but you especially love a sick day when you go to work with Mom/Dad which usually means you get to watch a few shows. Thanks to Disney you are also very good at picking who is going to marry who. Just last weekend, we rented Enchanted. You have the reader book Enchanted, and told me at the very beginning who was going to marry who. Then said, "You know how I knew that? I read the book!"

2. Singing & Dancing - You and everyone else in the world is currently obsessed with the music from Disney's Frozen. You've seen the movie twice and we watch or listen to Let It Go or Do you Want to Build a Snowman almost daily. You've also started putting on some performances where you make up songs and dances, which usually require some audience participation. My favorite is when you are reading a book and then decide halfway to sing all the words.

3. Plays, Musicals, Museums - This past year, you saw a lot of shows. You are so attentive and ask great questions. You understand act progression and even notice musical montages. This last year you saw- Peter Pan, Pinkalicous, Oklahoma, Go Dog Go, Alice and Wonderland, Into the Woods, School House Rocks, The Wizard of Oz, Lily and the Purple Plastic Purse, Oddly Puddle is from Outer Space, and multiple puppet shows, including Cinderella and Many Moons.

4. Star Wars - I'll let Daddy comment on this one. I've learned more about Star Wars this past year than I ever knew before.

Things you are good at:
1. Reading - I've mentioned it several times before, but you are a great reader. You aren't really interested in chapter books yet, but you have mastered the Level 2 readers. A common conversation:
Maevy: "Mom, did you know that I can read this whole book?"
Me: "No, way!"
Maevy: "What are you going to do when I read the whole book?:
Me: "I'll say- Shut the front the door!"
You then read the whole book. Announce how many pages it has, and then I say, "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!" You laugh hysterically.

2. Puzzles & Games- Last Sunday, as a family (without Carter) we tackled our first 100 piece puzzle. Daddy did a lot of it, but whenever I gave you a task to find a certain piece, you usually found it in 5 seconds. Our favorite games to play right now are Uno, Sequence, and Scrabble. You a good sport, but are also good at strategizing. You love "blocking" people in Sequence and "skipping" people in Uno.

3. Writing - Your penmanship has really improved this last year, and we love all the notes we get from you that include "I love you!".

4. Climbing - You love climbing trees and mastered the monkey bars months ago, way before some your boy classmates.

Things you don't like-
1. Corn, beans, avaocado, and grapes
2. Getting your hair brushed
3. Running errands
4. And sometimes going to Sunday school - last weekend, you asked if we could quit church. Sorry, I said no.

Maevy-girl, you are growing into one sweet, smart, and caring little girl. As a fellow oldest child, I'll always foster and support your creative interests, desire to be in charge, love of all things silly. Looking forward to another momentous year and learning lots more from you.

Love always,

Mommy
