Sick and Elmo

Elmo- You love this shirt (above) and are currently obsessed with Elmo. Elmo is only 15 minutes and we let you watch it on weekend mornings, although lately you've gotten in the habit of picking up the remote and asking for Elmo everyday.

Sick story- Daddy didn't feel well last Monday, then on Tuesday we found out we all had strep throat. You seemed fine the whole week. Then on Friday you had a bad cough and running nose. I guess with your immune system low you picked up a virus. It was kind of a rough weekend, lots of crying in the middle of night and medicine. Sunday you slept in a little in the morning, but didn't have a great nap. Late in the afternoon Daddy tried to snap a picture of you and said, "No Daddy, no smile."

Then you told him "nap", grabbed his hand and climbed the stairs. We didn't ask questions, just gave you a kiss, and let you take a late afternoon nap. So sweet...I can't believe you put yourself to bed.

Great-Grandma Visit

Maevy-

We did it! What did we do? Well two things- one we visited Mommy's Grandma, your Great-Grandma! It was a great trip and your first time meeting Great-Grandma. You put a smile on everyone's face at the assisted living facility and made lots of new friends. You also met Great-Uncle Bill, Great-Aunt Mary Bess, and your cousins Kerre, Madison, Carson, and Sydney. You really loved playing with Carson and Sydney, and immediately asked Sydney to read you several books.

Unfortunately towards the end of the trip you got sick and had a fever on the plane ride home. BUT- you're all better now.

The second thing we did was travel on a plane without Daddy! Mommy had a whole system and lots of toys/books for you to play with. You were great and even entertained some passengers on the plane. On the way home we really only played a little bit and spent most of the trip sleeping. It's much easier to travel with an extra person, but thanks for being such a great travel partner. (sick, sleepy Maevy below)

1 to 10

I'm really getting in to this school thing. Guess who came home yesterday counting to 10?! It was probably the cutest thing ever. You don't know how to actually count yet. If I were to put 5 objects down and ask you to count them, you would just keep counting to 10. But still, in the matter of a few days you went from just 1, 2, 3....and then all the way to 10. I told your teacher, Miss Susan, this morning how impressed I was and she seemed very pleased. She said they have a numbers book that you like to read a lot.

Clearly your language skills are really taking off and over the past few weeks you just can't help but point out of the objects, colors, numbers, and letters you know.Oh and you've also gone from saying that all circles are "balls" to saying that they are "circles".

You have a new favorite book during bedtime, Lull-a-bye, Little One, which basically follows your exact bedtime routine. Your favorite part is when the little girl puts away her toys and yells "Hooray!" with both hands up in the air. You are also obsessed with The Family Book which has lots of great colors and a page that you think is hilarious with raccoons in a tree and a monkey hanging upside down.

 

(Here you are playing with probably your favorite toy from Christmas, Pegs! As much as I want you to play with your Aquadoodle, you are much more interested in drinking the water from the pen!)

Chatty Maevy

It was just a couple weeks ago that I noted you were saying a lot of phrases. Now you are speaking in sentences, and you seem obsessed with pointing out all the words and objects you know. We don't always understand you, but here are a few we've recently deciphered.

Uh-oh, I dropped it!
Sit down Mommy or Sit down Daddy (This might be your first sentence. You figured out how to boss us around pretty early.)

The following three sound very similar-
Pillow
Window
Snow (We had our first snow of the season last week and it was on the ground for a couple days.)

Lights; more lights (You've known light for a long time, but you've had fun driving around with Daddy after school looking at Christmas lights.)

Colors- You've definitely got blue and green down. You know yellow, orange, red, and purple as well, but you don't point them out as often.

Shapes- I think you know most of your shapes, but you haven't started saying them yet. And all circles look a lot like balls!

One last story- The babysitter at the church nursery noted last week that you were very good at puzzles. I've thought this as well, and we should probably get you some more. Lately we've been spreading out all the puzzles on the floor. Then we have all the pieces in a pile or box. You pick them up one by one and place them in the appropriate puzzle. We have one puzzle with shapes and family members on the puzzle board. The oval piece goes on M, the triangle piece goes on Mommy, etc... Yesterday without even looking at the puzzle, you picked up the oval piece and said, "M!" I thought that was pretty smart.

Lately you've stringing together 2-3 words. They are usually very deliberate and ridiculously cute.

Book Nook

Last Friday Daddy and I picked you up from school for a special Holiday luncheon. When I came into your classroom you were sitting down reading a book in the reading nook. Miss Marissa, your teacher, said it was your favorite spot and asked if I had seen a new picture of you that was on the wall. The picture shows you surrounded with all the books pulled off the shelf. Miss Marissa said that's your favorite thing to do- pull all the books off and read. I noted that I thought this was great. Added bonus it creates a little barrier between you and your classmates. Everyone needs alone time.

I've also noticed that you've been wanting to read books to Daddy and I recently. We try to read them to you, and you say "No Mommy/Daddy...mine." As long you are reading, we don't really care if you get the words right. Let's hope your love for books lasts forever.
